Floor Cleaning Tips

Cleaning floors is a huge task to take on when cleaning a home, however, it is a necessary step to take since the floors are the main source of dirt and bacteria in the house. Everyone that enters the home walks on these floors and because of this they track in all types of bacteria and dirt that becomes ground into these floors. However, many people are confused as to what they should do in order to clean their floors and make sure that they are truly clean, yet safe for kids to play on.

One of the biggest tips for cleaning floors is to not use those harmful chemicals that are found in the cleaning aisles of most retail stores. Instead, a great alternative is to use vinegar and water in order to clean the hard floors that you may have in your home such as hardwood and tile. The vinegar is a natural disinfectant and it does remove the bacteria from the floors, while still giving the floor a natural shine. Plus, the home will have refreshing vinegar smell. For those that are not big fans of the smell, do not worry it will disappear in a few hours after cleaning. And since vinegar is a natural cleaning source, the person does not have to worry about the children in the family getting any harmful residue from chemicals that are left from other household chemicals. On hardwood floors, vinegar and water used to wash these are not going to eat away the wax and will produce a beautiful shine.

Those with ceramic floors will find that over time the shine of the ceramic floors will disappear over time. This is due to normal wear and tear on the floors, as well as the fact that many chemicals that are used on these floors to clean are also the reasons why the shine is diminished. The best way to make sure that the floor maintains its shine is to use a squeegee on the floor. You will want to use a soapy solution of a mild soap or a vinegar rinse in order to place this on the floor with a mop. Be sure to avoid wiping the water back up. You will then squeegee away the excess water and soap that is on the floor. More than likely you will be surprised at just how shiny the floors are once you finish and have dried them with a microfiber cloth.

For those that have ceramic tile that has set in stains, a great way to loosen up the dirt and stains that are on the floor is to sprinkle a bit of baking soda into the water that you are using to wash the floor with. This will give simple soap and water a little bit of extra cleaning power since it enables the floor to be scrubbed. You should then follow this up with a rinse that does not contain baking soda so that the floor does not have a residue left behind.
