Window Cleaning Tips

Dirty windows are something that most people despise. After all, a dirty window not only inhibits the ability to see clearly out of the windows of your home, but it also makes the rest of your house look dirty even if it is spotless and clean. In addition, cleaning windows is not something that most people look forward to doing since it can involve the use of ladders and numerous paper towels only to find that all the time and effort in ruined when a gust of wind blows more dirt upon the windows that you just cleaned. However, there are a few tips to keep in mind that may help the process go a little faster and smoother for those that are cleaning their windows.

The first tip is to have the right tools in your possession in order to get the job done right. Paper towels and a bottle of Windex are things of the past, and in all honesty, they don't work that great to begin with. Instead, make sure that you have some kind of scrubber and a squeegee, as well as a dry cloth in order to wipe the squeegee clean after each use.

Secondly, when you start, make sure that the scrubber that you are using to get off those hard pieces of dirt and grime are clean. There is nothing worse than finishing the job only to find that the scrubber was full of such dirt that the windows look even worse. You will also want to be liberal with the amount of water that you use to make sure that the scrubber is doing its job. Most people recommend that you have a water hose ready to use when cleaning these windows on the outside, while on the inside a spray bottle of water mixed with a mild soap detergent will suffice.

Once you have finished with the scrubbing and soapy water, you will then want to use the squeegee in order to make sure that there are no streaks on the windows. The few tips to keep in mind when you are doing this is to first, never wash the windows when the Sun is directly on them. The reason is that it increases the chances of having smudges and streaks because the window is heating up. You will also want to make sure that you do left to right strokes on the window with the squeegee, starting from the top and working your way down. Once the entire window has been wiped, then the final squeegee stroke will be up and down on the left since there is more than likely some water still on that part of the window. Remember to wipe the squeegee after each stroke so that you are starting each time with a clean and fresh squeegee. You will also want to make sure that you overlap the lines of the squeegee in order to decrease the chances of streaks from occurring.
